Our vision for the future of Poole’s Homeless community is to provide a place of hospitality rooted and grounded in Christ’s love for all people. A place which excludes no one but accepts and provides for all, especially the poor and often socially excluded people in our society. A place where basic human needs such as washing facilities, toilets, food and clothing can be accessed. A place which will be for their welfare and not for harm, our plan is to provide the Homeless of Poole with a future with hope.
Through leasing (or otherwise occupying) a sizeable building located close to Poole town centre we propose to develop a Drop – In / Resource Centre which will create an environment conducive to relaxing, thus creating an outlet for creative expression, learning and motivation. Here we will create a safe place to seek support, guidance and advice, in other words progressive routes which are not currently available for Poole’s rootless people. Having a place to meet on a regular daily basis would enable the homeless to build relationships with each other and also with supporting agencies and services such as,
      + housing
+ drug and alcohol treatment services including harm minimisation
      + NHS/ mental health
      + education/training
      + employment services
      + the criminal justice system
Routes to Roots also recognise that one of the biggest problems affecting Homeless people is boredom. There is too much time in the day to kill and opportunities and ideas for stimulation are often non-existent. Frustration, depression and boredom take over and the problems ultimately become worse and the downward spiral becomes even greater. Lack of motivation, inspiration and ability to see beyond their current chaotic lifestyle means their full potential is often never reached. The Drop-in / Resource Centre therefore would also have at its core a Creative / Art environment. running projects geared towards motivating, inspiring and generating positive experiences. Our aim being to change the culture from a negative to a positive mind-set by taking part in creative activity as a form of therapy. The project aims to build up the potential of each individual and so instil confidence, self-esteem, and a sense of worth and belonging through engaging with creative workshops such as:-
      + Art / Sculpture
      + Photography / Film / Media
      + Drama
      + Creative Writing
      + Design
